Woohoo! Fall is here! Coming from Arkansas/Texas, I usually wouldn’t see Fall until mid-October, but it is in full swing up here in Alaska! During our drive up here a couple weeks ago, we could see the signs of fall emerging more and more the farther north we got. It started with some sparse yellow aspens in Colorado. Once we got to Alaska, beautiful yellow birch trees lined the Glenn Highway.
I’ve noticed that there seems to be a bigger obsession with Fall more recently. It has now become an extremely popular wedding season, people obsess when the infamous PSL is finally available, and social media is buzzing with the memes from our favorite Halloween movies. There is no doubt that Fall is a magical time.
I am obviously very excited for the season, so I wanted to share with y’all some of my favorite things about Fall.
Alright, let’s go.
I mentioned them at the beginning of this post, but I seriously love seeing the trees change colors. And there’s something about the sound of leaves falling in the forest or blowing across the ground in the wind. It’s just so lovely, and I can’t help but gape at the beautiful yellow and red trees.
Hearty soups are the best, and Fall is the best time to start making them again. There is nothing like having a bowl of hot soup at the end of the day with the crisp Fall air outside. My absolute favorite soup is the chicken tortilla soup that my mom makes. It’s more creamy than broth-based, and we always make fresh tortilla strips to go with it. It’s not the healthiest, but it is a great comfort food!
Unpopular opinion: I think the Pumpkin Spice Lattes are disgusting. BUT I do love pumpkin desserts. My favorite are these Pumpkin Apple Bars by Freda. They are dangerously delicious. I also love pumpkin pancakes – thank you to IHOP for introducing me to these. And pumpkin pie with a nice sized dollop of whipped cream on top. Ahhh, I get so excited just thinking about it.
Fall has a way of making me want to sit on the couch or a window seat wrapped up in a blanket drinking a nice cup of coffee. All while watching When Harry Met Sally. I love getting outdoors, but Fall sometimes makes me want to be a little bit of a homebody. It’s just so cozy! And I’m okay with that.
I already mentioned pumpkin for eating, but I also love pumpkins for decorations! And leaves, and throw pillows, and hay, and wreaths… The list goes on. I love decorating for Fall, because you get to leave the decorations out from September all the way till after Thanksgiving (when you put up your Christmas decorations 🙂 )
I think that Fall brings the best scented candles of the entire year. Pumpkin, apple, cinnamon. I am like a kid in a candy store at the Bath & Body Works store when they release their Fall collection. So good! Fall scents are definitely my favorite.
While all of the seasons bring their own unique qualities, Fall will hold a special place in my heart. It makes me feel all warm inside. What are your favorite things about Fall?
